If you’re looking for a laptop that nobody else will have - and that will interest everybody - ignore the MacBook Air, any Tablet PC or even Alienware’s super-strength gaming notebooks.  Instead, stick a bid in for this Xentex prototype currently up on eBay: at first glance it looks like it should be a mockup, but this is actually a real, working laptop, it just so happens to be one with a folding chassis and twin swivelling screens.  The screens are in fact two 13.3-inch panels, and they can be independently rotated so that people can view them from each side.

ASUS Eee Domination

ASUS isn't being shy about its plan for global Eee domination, and it sounds like the company is exploring expanding beyond the laptop and desktop form factors we've already seen. Speaking to Current.com.au, ASUS Australia retail manager Emmanuele Silanesu said that ASUS's Eee group is "obviously looking at other form factors rather than just a clamshell," but wouldn't confirm anything -- and just to make things even hazier, Silanesu said that a forthcoming touchscreen machine from ASUS might not carry the Eee branding. That's just about as vague as it gets, but we're in agreement with UMPC Portal that ASUS has plenty of low-power, low-cost UMPCs on the shelf (like the R2E pictured above) that could easily be made over to fit with the Eee line. We'll see when we see -- Silanesu hinted that something was due to appear at Computex in June.

Pentax unveils Optio W60

Pentax aims to woo the point-and-shoot digital camera crowd by releasing the waterproof Optio W60 compact digital camera that brings together a myriad of features which ought to be more than enough for most beginners as well as those contemplating to move up a notch into the DSLR world. Granted, the W60 still won’t be able to offer a performance that matches the DSLR range in any way, but at least the option of expanding one’s horizons to shoot in dry as well as wet places makes the transition period easier. The Pentax Optio W60 features 10 megapixels as well as a 5x zoom lens with 28mm wide-angle capability, and will function just fine up to 13 feet underwater for up to 120 minutes, and is hardy enough to withstand a wide variance in temperature, even well below freezing. The 5X optical zoom refraction lens never protrudes from the Pentax Optio W60, despite the fact that it can cover focal lengths from 5mm to 25mm.

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi2550

Fujitsu Siemens' new notebook is the Amilo Xi2550 that claims to "present entertainment without constraint". Inside, you'll find the following specifications to back up such a claim.

  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor up to T9300
  • Up to 4GB RAM
  • Up to 640GB hard drive
  • ATI HD 2700 graphics card
  • Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN chipset
  • 17" display at 1920 x 1200 resolution
  • Remote control
  • Optional Blu-ray drive
With a 17" display, this will surely run out of juice pretty fast, especially when you pop in Blu-ray discs or DVDs. For long haul trips where readily available power outlets are uncertain, I would prefer to rely on something with a longer lasting battery life like the iPod.The Amilo Xi2550 will retail from 1500 Euros upwards.

Philips Xenium X800

Philips has just launched its Xenium X800 e2e touch screen phone officially, and along the way let down a fair bit of people considering the design held quite a lot of promise. Apparently, it doesn't even support EDGE, so let's not even go to the matter of 3G connectivity. In addition, the 2 megapixel camera will certainly impress no one while a 2.9" display wouldn't allow it to even come near the iPhone. No idea on how much it costs nor when will it be released, but apparently word has it that this will be a China-only handset.

* Walkman on Top – navigate your music collection from simple keys on the phone’s front
* Fun music features – name a song with TrackIDTM

Palm Treo 800w Sneak Peek

Here's an image of the finished Treo 800w that ought to be coming out pretty soon. Some of the rumored specifications include :-

  • 128MB RAM
  • 256MB flash memory
  • GPS navigation
  • Wi-Fi connectivity

Will this turn things around for Palm? Hopefully the keyboard will still be a winner, as I find that to be one redeeming factor in most, if not all, Palm devices in the past.

Sony releases Limited Edition A350

Sony has just unveiled its new limited edition A350 DSLR in Japan which will cause approximately 850 clams' worth of damage to your wallet. It comes in a rather fetching champagne color, but other than the exterior cosmetic change, everything else inside remains the same. Shame this isn't launched simultaneously worldwide. I'm sure there are some folks out there who have avoided picking up the A350 based on its color alone before this - all three of you, time to head off to Japan and pick this up.

Treo and iPhone Meet

RKS Design has come up with the Mimique design - I suppose this is what the bastard child of a Treo and iPhone would look like, although it must have mated with a really old Treo considering the large antenna is still retained. I think that is the only flaw with the product as it really takes away the over charm. Another problem would be the lack of connectivity - it seems that only a single USB port is available - what happens when I want to listen to my music or transfer data? Guess it is USB-charged then.

Samsung P3 HAPTIC

The Samsung P3 will be released with haptic feedback, offering you more than what you expect from traditional touch screen devices. Chances are this portable media player will go up head to head against the iPod touch, but judging by past iPod challengers, the P3 will probably make a small splash with Apple swatting it away like a fly. The Samsung P3 will also have some rather big shoes to fill, since the P2 was considered to be one of the best and most popular PMPs in its generation. No idea on how much the P3 will cost, but it will be out sometime later this year.

Olympus E-520 10 mp

Olympus will release the new E-520 camera later this month. It is a 10MP digital camera that comes equipped with a ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm lens, a 2.7 inch LCD screen, and sensor-shifting image stabilization. The camera also sports Shadow Adjustment and Face Detection functions
