Xentex dual-screen folding laptop on eBay

If you’re looking for a laptop that nobody else will have - and that will interest everybody - ignore the MacBook Air, any Tablet PC or even Alienware’s super-strength gaming notebooks.  Instead, stick a bid in for this Xentex prototype currently up on eBay: at first glance it looks like it should be a mockup, but this is actually a real, working laptop, it just so happens to be one with a folding chassis and twin swivelling screens.  The screens are in fact two 13.3-inch panels, and they can be independently rotated so that people can view them from each side.

ASUS Eee Domination

ASUS isn't being shy about its plan for global Eee domination, and it sounds like the company is exploring expanding beyond the laptop and desktop form factors we've already seen. Speaking to Current.com.au, ASUS Australia retail manager Emmanuele Silanesu said that ASUS's Eee group is "obviously looking at other form factors rather than just a clamshell," but wouldn't confirm anything -- and just to make things even hazier, Silanesu said that a forthcoming touchscreen machine from ASUS might not carry the Eee branding. That's just about as vague as it gets, but we're in agreement with UMPC Portal that ASUS has plenty of low-power, low-cost UMPCs on the shelf (like the R2E pictured above) that could easily be made over to fit with the Eee line. We'll see when we see -- Silanesu hinted that something was due to appear at Computex in June.

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi2550

Fujitsu Siemens' new notebook is the Amilo Xi2550 that claims to "present entertainment without constraint". Inside, you'll find the following specifications to back up such a claim.

  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor up to T9300
  • Up to 4GB RAM
  • Up to 640GB hard drive
  • ATI HD 2700 graphics card
  • Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN chipset
  • 17" display at 1920 x 1200 resolution
  • Remote control
  • Optional Blu-ray drive
With a 17" display, this will surely run out of juice pretty fast, especially when you pop in Blu-ray discs or DVDs. For long haul trips where readily available power outlets are uncertain, I would prefer to rely on something with a longer lasting battery life like the iPod.The Amilo Xi2550 will retail from 1500 Euros upwards.
